Jinja (Shinto Shrine)

The Shinto shrine is a building where Shinto deities or kami are enshrined.
There are many kinds of Shinto shrine, and it is said that there are 80,000 or more shrines throughout Japan.
Among these, the shrine Ise Jingū, where the highest kami Amaterasu is enshrined, and Izumo Taisha,
where Ōkuninushi is enshined, are especially famous. Many Japanese visit Shinto shrines to pray for health and happiness.
Any Shinto shrine is crowded with worshippers on New Year's day.
They are making their first visit to a shrine at New Year’s.
